Job Description:   **PHARMACY TECH I (1.0) CHI Health CUMC-Bergan Mercy** **Description** Job Summary: To assist and perform a variety of supporting tasks under the supervision of a pharmacist. This will include the compounding and dispensing of prescriptions and I.V.’s, maintaining the appropriate records associated with them and proper computer entry to comply with state and federal guideline **Key Job Responsibilities** _1._ Prepares, fills and distributes unit-dose medication. 2. Assists in the preparation of sterile intravenous under pharmacist supervision. 3. Performs clerical functions such as maintaining prescription files, answering the telephone and triaging phone calls 4. Maintains adequate levels of stock drugs in Automated Dispensing System on nursing units. 5. Checks for discontinued IV admixture solutions and antibiotic piggyback solutions in nursing unit refrigerator. Returns unused medications to the pharmacy. 6. Fills and prices department drug stock-supply requisitions. 7. Completes charges/credits daily for billing. 8. Repackages and labels bulk oral solid and liquid drugs into unit-dose form under pharmacist supervision. Reconstitutes drugs and prepares compounds under pharmacist supervision. Maintains accurate packaging log under pharmacist supervision. 9. Maintains the various work areas of the department and equipment/utensils in a neat, clean, and orderly appearance. 10. Performs and documents inspections of the general pharmacy inventory to ensure that expired or otherwise unusable drugs are removed and replaced when appropriate. 11. Resupplies emergency drugs to crash carts and heart carts under pharmacist supervision. 12. Performs duties in documented accordance with requirements of all regulatory and governing bodies. Mandatory education from a system and department level is completed. 13. Maintains professional attitude with patients, visitors and other hospital personnel while assuring confidentiality of patient and other hospital information. Complies with all HIPAA procedures **Qualifications** **Required Education for Staff Job Levels** High school diploma or GED Required Licensure and Certifications Nebraska registered with the Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Technician or Eligible to be or registered as Technician in Training, Certification completed within 1 year of Hire Iowa only technicians are required to register with the Board by submitting an initial pharmacy support person registration application for registration within 30 days of accepting employment in an Iowa Pharmacy as either a certified pharmacy technician or technician trainee registration.
