Job Description:   **Paramedic-Ambulance-Mercy Medical Center-FT.9 (Days)** **Description** **GENERAL SUMMARY:** Provides professional direct patient care during transport of patients in the ground ambulance environment or in the Emergency Room setting. Patient population includes neonates, infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Paramedics also function as a preceptor for new employees and paramedic students. **ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS** **:** + Assess patients with traumatic medicalconditions with findings reflected in the patient record. + Triages, prioritizes, and anticipates patients’needs. Develops a plan of care. + Provides ongoing evaluation, altering the planof care as indicated. Documents findingsand interventions. + Implements interventions consistent withprotocols documenting response to treatment. + Prepares equipment and supplies. Checks medical equipment and supplies on adaily basis, restocking and cleaning the rig after each transport. + Operates required vehicle(s) in a safe manner toperform required duties of the position. Provides stand-by EMS service atevents. + Assists with station duties. **MARGINALFUNCTIONS:** + Assists with the mentoring of studentsaffiliated with the School of EMS. + Assists in the orientation of new staff. + Provides patient care in the EmergencyDepartment or critical care units when not performing functions related to theambulance services. + Assists in meeting requests for difficultperipheral line insertions for hospital in-patients. **Qualifications** **MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED** **:** + High School Diploma or GED. + Current certification as a Paramedic in theState of Iowa required. + Critical Care Paramedic Endorsement required within 3years of hire. + Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Providercertified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies andcertifications include American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuerand American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. + Advanced Cardiac Life Support certified or obtainedwithin 3 months of hire. + Proof ofcompletion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within3 months of hire. + Pediatric Advanced Life Support trainingrequired within 6 months of hire + Valid driver’s/ChauffeursLicense required.
