Job Description:   **MEDICAL LAB TECHNICIAN PRN** **Description** **JOB SUMMARY:** **The Medical Laboratory Technician works under the supervision of the Laboratory Director; performs routine phlebotomy, prepares and analyzes patient specimens for testing or culture, has knowledge of theory in areas of Transfusion Service, Chemistry, Hematology, Serology, Coagulation and Microbiology and Urinalysis; performs quality control; interprets quality of patient results as they correlate to instrument operation; performs routine instrument maintenance; relays results to the nursing floor or physician; performs miscellaneous related duties and performs other duties as assigned.** **This position shares in the on-call rotation.** **All of the job standards and skills included within this description will be performed and documented according to established policies, procedures and guidelines of the Lisbon Area Health Services as they apply.** **Measurement of performance will be made by demonstration, observation and documentation.** **Qualifications** **REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:** **-** **Requires completion of a program for Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) with an associate degree from an approved facility.** **-** **Requires licensure in the state of North Dakota as a Clinical Laboratory Technician/Medical Laboratory Technician.** **-** **Requires valid, current certification by American Society for Clinical Pathologists, the National Certification Agency, or equivalent certifying agency.** **KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:** **-** **Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.** **-** **Ability to deal with formulas, scientific equations, graphs, and to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.** **-** **Skilled operation of a personal computer.** **-** **Excellent verbal skills.** **SECURITY ACCESS (HIGH):** **-** **Incumbent has access to restricted or confidential patient information and must comply with the terms of the Lisbon Area Health Services Security Policies as it applies to their job role.** **LANGUAGE SKILLS:** **Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.** **ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:** **Environmental conditions include working with bio-hazardous material and chemicals.** **It also includes working with electrical instruments for operation and troubleshooting.** **Compliance with infection control, safety, and the hazardous communications program is required.** **PATIENT AND CUSTOMER NEEDS:** **The Medical Lab Technician is responsible for practicing respect for patient and customer needs.** **Those needs include privacy and security, communication needs, and resolution of complaints.** **PHYSICAL DEMANDS:** **Physical senses of position require ability to see, hear, talk, and smell.** **Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position without compromising patient care** **Job** **Laboratory** **Primary Location** **NORTH DAKOTA-LISBON-LISBON AREA HEALTH SERVICES** **Daily Schedule** **Day shift plus on call** **Scheduled Hours per 2-week Pay Period** **0** **Weekends Required** **Occasional** **Req ID:** 2017-R0132635
