Job Description:   **Director Patient Care - Med/Surg ICU (Days) Full Time** **Description** An acute care hospital offering medical and surgical services to the Fort Bend community. Clinical services include heart and vascular, gastroenterology, neurosciences, diagnostic imaging, women services, orthopedics, and surgical services including the latest in robotic surgery technology, the da Vinci® Xi. The hospital offers The University of Texas MD Anderson Regional Care Center on its campus. Sugar Land Hospital is a Pink Ribbon Facility offering 3-D digital mammography-one of only 100 sites in the United States. Has accountability and oversight for the clinical care unit or service. The major responsibilities are in providing leadership and communication to the staff and physicians working with the area. will assure the work environment adheres to regulatory requirements and departmental practices and processes reflect high quality standards which support excellence in patient care and a safe environment for patients, employees, physicians, visitors and guests. Must assure quality standards are implemented and maintained, and revisions to processes are updated and revised as appropriate. Must manage the fiscal budget which includes supply expenses and labor cost. They must also lead the capital budget planning in their area and manage human resources efficiently. Monitor metrics to validate performance against national and system benchmarks and to ensure the delivery of competent clinical practice is consistently achieved.Job Summary: **Qualifications** **Education and Licensure Required:** Bachelor’s Degree **Minimum Experience:** Minimum of seven (7) years experience in the discipline and five (5) years leadership experience **Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:** Specialty certification preferred in area of practice. Strong interpersonal communication skills. Ability to prioritize and finish tasks, and maintain deadlines. Ability to balance the demands of the patients, physicians, and staff in a partnership community hospital. **POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES** 1. Responsible for the coordination of patient flow throughout the clinical care area from admission to discharge. 2. Consults in a variety of patient care situations requiring advanced competency & knowledge. 3. Serves as a clinical resource for problem solving & Assists staff with patient related issues. 4. Acts as liaison & collaborates with other departments, physicians and multiple patient care services to facilitate care progression, & quality nursing care for the patient. 5. Serves as a role model to develop staff competence in the delivery of nursing care based on national professional standards, & hospital policies & procedures. 6. Responsible for cost effective operations and initiatives, including product evaluation, prevention of waste & damage, materials management, patient flow, control of overtime, & appropriate staff mix. 7. Able to provide safe, quality care directly to the patient as needed. Human Resource/Financial Management 1. Promotes philosophy of shared leadership & individual accountability. 2. Encourages participation of staff in scheduling assignments & outcomes management. 3. Coordinates staffing: developments unit/shift schedules; Ensures unit-staffing coverage to provide quality patient care within budgetary guidelines; observes and documents clinical competency of staff in collaboration with the preceptors; Ensures cost-effective staff utilization. 4. Participates in the hiring process to include interviews & personnel recommendations; coaches & counsels staff; completes counseling documentation, as indicated. 5. Completes annual performance appraisals of staff, providing verbal and written feedback for employee evaluations. Provides ongoing constructive feedback to staff as needed. 6. Maintains fiscal budget within established targets, overtime, orientation costs, SSP costs & medical supply costs. 7.
