Job Description:   **Sterile Processing Tech - Sterile Processing - Mercy Medical Center - Full Time** **Description** **GENERALSUMMARY** **:** This position is responsible for inspecting, assembling and wrapping procedure trays, instrument trays, linens, and surgical supplies for sterilization. Also responsible for sterilization processes. Maintains appropriate supply levels to meet patient care requirements. **ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS** **:** + Knowledgeof all surgical instruments. + Inspectsinstruments for cleanliness and proper function and prepares them forsterilization using procedure cards. + Assemblesand prepares procedure trays, instruments trays, linens and surgical suppliesfor sterilization according to Quality Assurance procedures. + Properlabeling of instruments by set name and identifying who they belong to,including any missing items. + Operatessteam and low temperature sterilizers according to standard practice. + Prioritizesinstrument sets needing to be sterilized. + Workswith consignment sets and sales representatives to ensure availability ofnecessary instruments. + Correctlyidentifies where specific instruments are kept. + Abilityto issue supplies to requesting areas via computer. + Maintainsrecords of instrument sets for productivity and quality assurance. + Maintainsinventory of sterile supplies. + Answerstelephone; fills special request orders. + Fillssurgery case list orders with proper instrumentation. + Maintainsorganized work area and performs departmental cleaning as required. + Maintainsrecord keeping of sterilization/decontamination process. Accurately and legibly fills out allmandated sterilization documents according to procedures. **MARGINAL FUNCTIONS** **:** + Participatesin departmental Performance Improvement activities. + Worksin the decontamination area. **Qualifications** **MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED** **:** + Highschool diploma or GED required. + Abilityto read, write, comprehend, and speak English. + BasicLife Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire.
