Job Description:   **Phlebotomist, KLS, Saint Joseph Hospital, Part-Time, 1st Shift** **Description** **Job Summary:** Performs a variety of clerical duties and coordinates communications between departments. Performs blood collections **(Phlebotomy)** from patients and assumes responsibility for safety and comfort of patients, following established standards and practices. Provides direct patient care to patients of all ages. **Essential Duties:** + After receiving an order fromthe attending physician, and in a quick and efficient manner and byfollowing established departmental policies and/or procedures and safework practices pertaining to specimen collection, preparation andanalysis, collect requested specimen(s) for analysis. + Ensure proper labeling,documentation and transport of specimens to maintain specimen quality. + Perform analytical testingusing approved bedside testing equipment and procedures. + Utilize the appropriateprocedure, technique and material for each test ordered ensuring thatlaboratory forms are correctly completed and patients are properlyidentified. + Clean and stock phlebotomy trayand work area. + Comprehend and follow infectioncontrol and blood borne pathogen policies and procedures. + Perform telecommunicationactivities to include reporting laboratory results, taking verbal orders,transferring calls, describing specimen collection protocols, esoterictest research, and troubleshooting issues. + Follow all safety and emergencyprocedures and contribute to the efficient operation of the laboratory. + Document corrective actionstaken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s acceptableguidelines. + Enter test results into theLaboratory Information System in order for standardized reports to begenerated for physicians review and interpretation. + Positively identify patient(s)or specimen(s) on which procedures are performed with 100% accuracy. + Perform clerical duties whichfacilitate the flow of information through the laboratory and to thecaregiver. **Qualifications** **Education:** + High school graduate orequivalent required. + Completion of post-high schoolcourse work including computer courses, mathematics, science andphlebotomy training is preferred. **Experience:** + **Looking for applicants with atleast one year of experience or completion of a recent phlebotomy courseincluding an externship.** **License/Certification:** + Certification as a PhlebotomyTechnician (PBT) by ASCP or equivalent is strongly preferred. + BLS certificationpreferred. **AdditionalResponsibilities:** + Demonstrates a commitment toservice, hospital values and professionalism through appropriate conductand demeanor at all times. + Adheres to and exhibitsCatholic Health Initiatives core values: **Reverence:** Having a profound spirit of awe and respect for allcreation, shaping relationships to self, to one another and to God andacknowledging that we hold in trust all that has been given to us. **Integrity:** Moral wholeness, soundness, uprightness, honestyand sincerity as a basis of trustworthiness. **Compassion:** Feeling with others, being one with others intheir sorrows and joys, rooted in the sense of solidarity as members ofthe human community. **Excellence:** Outstanding achievement, merit, virtue;continually surpassing standards to achieve/maintain quality. + Maintains confidentiality andprotects sensitive data at all times. + Adheres to organizational anddepartment specific safety standards and guidelines. + Works collaboratively andsupports efforts of team members. + Demonstrates exceptionalcustomer service and interacts effectively with physicians, patients,visitors, staff and the broader health care community. **Job** Laboratory **Primary Location** KENTUCKY-WINCHESTER-KMG PCA 475 SHOPPERS DR **Daily Schedule** 1 **Scheduled Hours per 2-week Pay Period** 40 **Weekends Required** Occasional **Req ID:** 2017-R0127280
