Job Description:   **Med Technologist - Lab Microbiology(Days) Full-Time** **Description** **BaylorSt. Luke’s Medical Center** A quaternary care facility that is home of the Texas Heart® Institute, a world-class cardiovascular research and education institution founded in 1962 by Denton A. Cooley, MD–consistently ranked as one of the nation’s best in Cardiovascular Services & Heart Surgery. The first hospital in Texas and the Southwest designated a Magnet® hospital for Nursing Excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, receiving the award four consecutive times. Baylor St. Luke’s is home to three freestanding community emergency centers (Holcombe, Pearland, and San Felipe) offering adult and pediatric care–treating more than 51,000 patients annually. The hospital holds a collaborative partnership with Baylor College of Medicine and affiliations with The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, The University of Texas Medical Branch (Galveston), Houston Baptist University, and Prairie View A&M University. **Position Summary:** Accurately analyzes and report all tests ordered by the Medical Staff in a timely manner to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. **Qualifications** **Education:** Bachelor’s Degree Required **Licensure/Certification:** Certification as a Medical Technologist – MT (ASCP), or MLS, or AMT, or NCA, OR specialty certification depending on lab section (e.g. M(ASCP) for Microbiology, H(ASCP) for Hematology, etc.) **Minimum Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities:** Strong organizational skills Ability to communicate with others **PositionResponsibilities:** 1. Performs and results test procedures on patient specimens adhering to the Section’s Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate, timely reporting 2. Ensures that major automated equipment is operational by performing required maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting procedures 3. Performs required Quality Control procedures and Maintains records to ensure tests are being performed within control limits 4. Assists in evaluation of new procedures and equipment to provide the physician with the most current laboratory technology 5. Participates in opportunities for continuing education and/or teaching, training according to the Section Performance Standards to enhance technical skills 6. Responsible for inventory of supplies 7.
