Job Description:   **MED TECHNOLOGIST** **Description** **MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST:** Receives or obtains specimens for laboratory analysis in such a manner as to ensure proper patient identification and sample; performs various chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease and assures that each test is accurate; assures maximum protection against potentially incompatible transfusion by typing and compatibility testing the donor’s blood with the recipients blood and obtains adequate amounts of components in a timely fashion; performs preventative maintenance on all equipment and is able to correct inoperative machinery as needed to ensure as little down time as possible; maintains technical skills and broadens knowledge by participating in workshops, seminars, and other educational activities; maintains all required records, files, logs, and department policies and procedures, communicates laboratory results properly and confidentially and performs other duties as directed. Reports to Laboratory Manager **KEY JOB BEHAVIORS:** **1. Job Knowledge:** **Ø** **Receives or obtains specimen for laboratory analysis in such a manner as to ensure proper patient identification and sample.** **Ø** **Collects venous and arterial samples from patient in a timely fashion.** **Ø** **Discusses procedure with patient to put him/her at ease.** **Ø** **Collects specimen accurately according to collection chart, and properly labels each tube.** **Ø** **Receives samples from patient, hospital, clinic personnel, or physician.** **Ø** **Assures each specimen is correctly labeled and time of collection noted to improve accuracy of tests.** **Ø** **Checks specimen container to assure it had been transported, collected, and stored properly.** **Ø** **Performs various chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic tests to obtain date for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease and assures that each test is accurate.** **Ø** **Accurately performs each test as described in manual.** **Ø** **Follows quality control policy.** **Ø** **Assures maximum protection against potentially incompatible transfusions by typing and compatibility testing the donor’s blood with the recipient’s blood and obtains adequate amounts of components in a timely fashion.** **Ø** **Chooses blood to minimize incompatibility.** **Ø** **Types donor and recipient blood to determine correct ABO blood group and RH type.** **Ø** **Accurately screens for antibodies and cross-matches as ordered.** **Ø** **Orders and maintains adequate bloodstocks daily.** **Ø** **Follows the established procedure for obtaining a supply of blood and blood components.** **Ø** **Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment and is able to correct inoperative machinery as needed to ensure as little down time as possible.** **Ø** **Follows preventative maintenance schedules to ensure proper functioning of instruments.** **Ø** **Promptly and accurately documents all maintenance performed.** **Ø** **Makes repairs on disabled instruments as required.** **Ø** **Follows manufacturer’s guidelines in quickly repairing instruments.** **Ø** **Maintains inventory of parts for repairs.** **Ø** **Obtains services when required.** **Ø** **Maintains a precise file on all repairs made.** **Ø** **Maintains technical skills and broadens knowledge by participating in workshops, seminars, and other educational activities.** **Ø** **Maintains necessary qualifications and enhances degree by willing participation in educational programs.** **Ø** **Participates in in-house in-services and quality assurance programs.** **Ø** **Communicates laboratory results.** **Ø** **Maintains departmental records as required.** **Ø** **Assists department director in establishing goals and objectives that enhance the competencies of the department and actively support the health facility’s annual and/or long-range goals.** **Ø** **Maintains all required records, files, logs, and departmental policies and procedures, communicates laboratory results properly and confidentially and assists in establishing department goals.** + **Demonstrates a commitment to service, organization values and professionalism through appropriate conduct and demeanor at all times** + **Adheres to and exhibits our core values:** **Reverence** **: Having a profound spirit of awe and respect for all creation, shaping relationships to self, to one another and to God and acknowledging that we hold in trust all that has been given to us.** **Integrity** **: Moral wholeness, soundness, uprightness, honesty and sincerity as a basis of trustworthiness.** **Compassion** **: Feeling with others, being one with others in their sorrows and joys, rooted in the sense of solidarity as members of the human community.** **Excellence** **: Outstanding achievement, merit, virtue;
