Job Description:   **Registered Nurse - Cardiac : CUMC - Bergan Mercy (0.9 FTE nights)** **Description** **External New Hire Incentives** + $10,000 Loan Forgiveness + $5,000 Sign-On Bonus + $3,000 Continuing education per. year of service **POSITION PURPOSE:** This position contributes to the mission and vision of Alegent Health by providing direct and indirect nursing care to a designated group of patients across the age continuum. Provides services which encompass the spiritual, physiological, social, and psychological aspects of care of the sick, prevention of disease, or conservation of health. **ENVIRONMENT:** Alegent Health is a not-for-profit umbrella corporation providing governance, administrative management and direction to all operations of Bergan Mercy Health System (sponsored by Catholic Health Initiatives) and Immanuel Medical Center (Immanuel Health Systems). These two health systems have consolidated operations while maintaining separate religious identities, financial assets and medical staffs. Consolidated operations include five acute-care metropolitan hospitals located in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area; three rural hospitals located in Missouri Valley and Corning, Iowa and in Schuyler, Nebraska; one long-term care facility located in Omaha; one ambulatory service facility at Lakeside in Omaha; minority owner of community hospital in Blair; home care programs serving the region; multiple metropolitan and rural health care clinics/offices; major programmatic initiatives in managed care, physical medicine and rehabilitation, behavioral health, senior services, cardiovascular services, orthopedics, women’s and children’s services, and oncology; and joint ventures with community partners in pediatrics and hospice. **NATURE AND SCOPE:** The incumbent reports directly to the Operations Director and/or Manager, Nursing Service Administration and works collaboratively with patients, families, physicians, other departments and health care entities. **PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:** 1. Assesses patient status with patient/family input and identifies age-appropriate patient care needs/problems that includes bio-physical, psycho-social, spiritual, environment, self-care, and educational needs and will serve to focus the provision of nursing care at admission, transfer, and discharge. 2. Plans individualized age appropriate evidence-based patient care through a interdisciplinary team approach and through interdisciplinary patient care conference, ongoing patient assessments, re-evaluation of patient problems or needs. 3. Utilizes professional skills and judgement in prescribing, delegating and coordinating the plan of care; includes appropriate resources to manage patient care path/CareMaps/variances. Administers medications and treatments according to nursing policy. 4. Guides and directs professional and nonprofessional personnel in the delivery of patient care, evaluates patient care effectiveness, modifies the plan of care according to age appropriate patient nursing policy. Utilizes care paths/CareMaps to develop and modify the patient's plan of care. Monitors variances and takes action on these variances. 5. Provides the following nursing services: a. Independent; b. Inter-dependent; c. Delegated. 6. Identifies patient/significant other learning needs and initiates and provides for age appropriate education. 7. Responds to patient calls, anticipates individual patient needs, and assures patient safety and comfort through regular rounds, environmental maintenance, and other appropriate safety measures. 8. Demonstrates the ability to perform in an accurate and precise manner in crisis and emergency situations. Demonstrates effective management of rapidly changing situations. 9. Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, and other team members while assuring confidentiality of patient information. 10. Maintains and promotes a professional attitude by providing support and assisting co-workers and other team members in the delivery of patient care. 11. Demonstrates a cost effective awareness by careful, efficient, and non-wasteful use of supplies and linens; uses established charge procedures and implementation of systems. 12. Complies with internal and external regulations, policies and procedures. 13. Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth through participation in unit meetings, inservice programs, continuing education programs, and fulfills yearly requirements as stated by policy. Participates in achieving nursing division goals and supports Shared Leadership structure. Assists in the orientation of new staff and participates in unit Quality Improvement activities. Participates in achieving organizational goals. 14. Assumes charge/leadership responsibilities based on skill level and unit needs. As a charge nurse, the incumbent assumes leadership role for the shift to include the following duties: serves as a resource for patient care, assigns staffing for shift, makes recommendations to manager if disciplinary actions are needed, and complies with all regulations. 15. Participates in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department. 16. Complies with internal and external regulations, policies, and procedures. Participates in achieving nursing division goals and supports shared governance structure. 17. Acknowledges the value of multicultural traditions and demonstrates this when caring for clients. 18. Appropriately delegates nursing procedures which do not require the skill/knowledge or judgement of a licensed professional and which may be safely delegated in accordance with nursing policies and procedures. Supervises the provision of care by non-licensed personnel as necessary. 19. Contributes to planning for use of physical, human, and capital budget fiscal resources. 20. Demonstrates work practices consistent with Alegent Health and department-specific safety, security and infection control policies. 21. Assess patient’s pain and establishes an acceptable pain level. Responds and intervenes to verbal and non-verbal pain. 22. Authorized to make entries in the medical record, consistent with and limited to the scope of the job duties and any applicable licensure. 23. Must have ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment. **Qualifications** **QUALIFICATIONS:** **Experience** One-year experience in an area of specialty preferred. **Education/Licensure** **Required:** Completion of a Registered Nurse program in an accredited institution Current RN licensure in the State of Nebraska or the State of Iowa. Nebraska and Iowa are compact states so you must be licensed in the state of residence. Additional requirements include: BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, American Safety and Health Institute: CPR, PRO, must say “Professional Level-with AED”, and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. ACLS or ACLS instructor certification is required within 6 months. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Heart Association: Advanced Cardiac Life Support, American Safety and Health Institute: ACLS, American College of Surgeons: ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) and American College of Emergency Physician: ACLS PALS (Pediatric Cardiac Life Support) or PALS instructor certification required within 12 months. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Heart Association: Pediatric Advanced Life Support, American Safety and Health Institute: PALS, Emergency Nurses Association: Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), American Academy of Pediatrics: Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP), and American Academy of Pediatrics/American College of Emergency Physicians: APLS. **Knowledge/Skills/Abilities** Job requires continuous use of reading skills and verbal communication skills. Job requires frequent use of written communications skills. Job requires delegation, conflict resolution, individual and group interactions, time management, critical thinking and stress management.
