Job Description:   **Emergency Room Technician** **Description** Job Summary: Emergency Room technician is held accountable for following the policies and procedures of the department, organization, and CHI. Additionally, the position serves as a role model for ethical behavior and promotes an awareness and understanding of positive ethical and moral principles consistent with the Mission, Vision and Behavior Standards of Mercy Medical Center. Essential Duties: 1. Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates. Weighs patients when necessary. Records allergies, immunizations and medication on the ER record for nurse to review with the patient. 2. Has a basic understanding of EMTALA laws. 3. Takes patient assignments from nurse in charge of Emergency Room. Reports patients conditions and pertinent changes. 4. Answers call lights to determine patient needs. 5. Assists in dressing and undressing patients as need for treatment in the Emergency Room. 6. Change bed linens, runs errands, directs visitors and answers telephone. 7. Assists nurse with scheduled cleaning of Emergency room and equipment. 8. Escorts patients discharged from ER, assisting if necessary outside to transportation. 9. Maintains order, stock and cleanliness of the Emergency room. 10. Transcribes physician orders. 11. Assists in procedures when appropriate. 12. Uses Meditech to enter orders, requests, patient data and charges. 13. Takes an active role in checking charges for completeness and accuracy. 14.
