Pay Scale: $19.17 - $25.56 Shift: 4am - 9:30am; schedule may vary due to increased work load, up to 8 hours per day as needed. Job Summary: Under the direction of the Histology Supervisor, the Histology Technician is responsible for all phases of tissue and fluid processing, including specimen receipt, preparation, staining and reporting. Essential Duties: + Prepares and stains tissue and body fluids for microscopic evaluation, including routine and special stains. + Performs gross examination of limited tissue specimens (if qualified under CIAA 88 guidelines). Training, supervision and proficiency testing will be provided by the pathologists. + Performs clerical work associated with the acquisition and reporting of tissue specimens and body fluids using Laboratory Information System (LIS). + Demonstrates responsibility for storage and disposal of tissues, slides, reports, etc. + Prepares and maintains reagents, stains and solutions for department, including mixing of reagents and chemicals as needed. + Performs frozen sections for the pathologists using cryostat. + Inventories all reagents and supplies for pathology department, and orders as needed, under the direction of the Histology Supervisor. **Qualifications** Education: + High school diploma or GED required. Experience: + Two (2) years of experience as a Histology Technician including working knowledge of preparing and staining tissues/body fluids for microscopic evaluation preferred. + Must be able to work independently and organize daily workload without supervision. + Must be able to perform tasks requiring a high degree of manual dexterity.
