Job Description:   **Cook (Patient Services) Food and Nutrition - Mercy Medical Center FT .9375 (11:30-7:30pm)** **Description** **GENERAL SUMMARY** **:** Prepares and cooks a variety of hot and cold foods with quality in taste and visual appeal. Participates in the planning, requisitioning, handling, storing and serving processes. Maintains clean, sanitary work area and practices food safety regulations. **ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS** **:** + Efficiently requisitions, inspects, prepares,cooks, cools and portions large and small quantities of meats, vegetables,cereals, soups, fruits and other forms of food in accordance with qualitystandards, quantity demands and standardized recipes. + Recommends recipes, menus and changes in recipesand cooking methods to improve quality of food; forecast specific quantities ofmenu items to be produced; maintains necessary food production records. + Forecasts production and utilizes leftovers tomaintain efficient waste control program. + Keeps abreast of new trends and methods of foodpreparation in the food service and catering industry. + Processes food for storage and cooling followingregulatory codes. + Labels and dates items as required. + Maintains organized, clean production area,equipment, utensils and tools. + Cleans work area, including but not limited to,ovens, stove, grill, and tables. + Lifts trays and pans of food from ovens,steamers, and other equipment. + Pushes food carts, racks, dollies, and cambros. + Assists in other areas as required. + Demonstrates knowledge of effective customerservice skills and performance improvement. + Monitors refrigerator and freezer temperaturesinternally and externally. + Inspects integrity of food products prior touse. + Knowledgeable and practices food safety codesand governing standards; federal, state, local, and accreditation agencies. + Uses standardized and non-standardized recipesand ingredients to prepare, create, and process foods. + Checks and records temperature of food asrequired. **Qualifications** **MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED** **:** + High school diploma or GED preferred. + Two year’s experience in restaurant or food service preferred. + Excellent customer service and communication skills. **Additional Responsibilities:** + Demonstrates a commitment to service, organization values and professionalism through appropriate conduct and demeanor at all times + Adheres to and exhibits our core values: **Reverence** : Having a profound spirit of awe and respect for all creation, shaping relationships to self, to one another and to God and acknowledging that we hold in trust all that has been given to us. **Integrity** : Moral wholeness, soundness, uprightness, honesty and sincerity as a basis of trustworthiness. **Compassion** : Feeling with others, being one with others in their sorrows and joys, rooted in the sense of solidarity as members of the human community. **Excellence** : Outstanding achievement, merit, virtue; continually surpassing standards to achieve/maintain quality. + Maintains confidentiality and protects sensitive data at all times + Adheres to organizational and department specific safety standards and guidelines + Works collaboratively and supports efforts of team members + Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interacts effectively with physicians, patients, residents, visitors, staff and the broader health care community _Catholic Health Initiatives and its organizations are Equal Opportunity Employers cbchi_ **Job** Food Service/Housekeeping **Primary Location** IOWA-DES MOINES-MERCY MEDICAL CENTER **Daily Schedule** 1130-730 **Scheduled Hours per 2-week Pay Period** 75 **Weekends Required** Every Other **Req ID:** 2017-R0113425
